Sam Scimemi

Senior Assistant in the Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate, Former ISS Director, NASA

Mr. Scimemi is the Senior Assistant in the Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters. His duties include implementing NASA’s Moon to Mars exploration endeavor including Artemis; collaborating with international partners in formulating future exploration activities; and representing the agency across government, industry and stakeholders.  He is a recognized leader in human spaceflight from the use of the International Space Station to sending humans to the Moon and onto Mars as well as in the development of a low-Earth orbit economy. 

 

Mr. Scimemi has been at NASA for over 36 years and has worked at four NASA centers including Johnson, Ames, Goddard and Headquarters. He has been at Headquarters since 2003.

 

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from McNeese State University in 1984 and graduated from Harvard’s Kennedy School Senior Executive Fellows program.
