Sean Cleary

Vice-Chair, FutureWorld Foundation

Seán Cleary is Vice-Chair of the FutureWorld Foundation, an Advisory Council member of the World Leadership Alliance-Club de Madrid, EIT Climate-KIC, Carnegie Artificial Intelligence and Equality Initiative, and the Institute of Advanced Studies, Kőszeg; a Faculty Member of theParmenides Foundation; a Senior Fellow of the Salzburg Global Seminar; Special Adviser to the Global Solutions Initiative, a Diplomacy Moderator of the Geneva Science and Diplomacy Anticipator, and a Director of Companies 

He saw diplomatic service in Iran, the USA, and Namibia, where he facilitated all-party negotiations, the release of political prisoners, and the adoption of a Bill of Rights. He served on the Facilitating and Preparatory Committee of South Africa’s National Peace Accord and chaired the Working Group on the Code of Conduct for Political Parties.

He was a Board member of many non-profit organisations, and a Strategic Adviser to the World Economic Forum.

He studied social sciences, philosophy and law in South Africa and Iran, and has an MBA from Henley Management College and lectured on global corporate strategy, development and conflict resolution.

He has received academic and public service awards, co-authored Resilience to Risk 2006) and Global Risks (2007) with Thierry Malleret, and published articles and book chapters, including Cognitive Constraints and Behavioral Biases in Learning from Catastrophes: Strategies for Reaction and Response. (Pearson 2009).
