Roberto Barcellan

Head of Unit "Data Services", DIGIT

Roberto Barcellan was born in Padua (Italy). He studied Statistics at the University of Padua and he obtained his Ph.D in Statistics applied to Economics from the same university. He joined the Commission, Eurostat, in 1999. Inside Eurostat he held different positions such as Team leader of Quarterly National Accounts and Secretary of the Committee on Monetary, Financial and Balance of Payments Statistics. In May 2007 he took up his first management position in Eurostat as Head of Unit of National Accounts – Production, followed by the Unit in charge of Prices – Purchasing Power Parities – Housing Statistics, being in parallel Head of the Task Force European Statistical System Vision Implementation Programme, and followed by the Unit in charge of Methodology and Corporate Architecture. In September 2015 he joined DIGIT, the Directorate-General for Informatics as Head of Unit “Innovation, web solutions and tools”. Between October 2016 and March 2017 he ran in parallel the Unit “Corporate Knowledge and Decision Making Solutions”. Since March 2017 he is the Head of Unit “Data Services” in DIGIT in charge of data, information and knowledge, corporate collaboration solutions and content management (intranet and extranet) of the European Commission.
