Patrick Matgen

Group Leader, Environmental Research & Innovation, LIST

Dr. Patrick Matgen received the M.Sc. degree in environmental engineering from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Lausanne, Switzerland, and the Ph.D. degree in water engineering from the Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands, in 2011. From 2002 to 2014, he was with the Centre de  Recherche Public—Gabriel Lippmann and from 2015 until 2019 he was a Lead Research and Technology Associate with the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). For 17 years, he has been a major contributor to the initialization, development and consolidation of an internationally recognized RDI activity in Luxembourg that is targeting innovative Earth Observation-based methods, products and services enabling an improved natural resources management and disaster relief. In 2020 he took up the role of Group Leader “Remote sensing and natural resources modelling” at LIST. The group’s offer is centred on the exploitation of remote sensing information obtained by multiple and complementary sensors installed on spaceborne and airborne platforms and a combination of physical and statistical modelling approaches to produce information on key environmental variables ranging from local to global scales
