ICT Spring guest speaker: meet Jay Gibson, President, Ceo, Xcor Space Expeditions
The ICT Spring team is proud to announce that Jay Gibson, President, CEO, Xcor Space Expeditions, will be a guest speaker at ICT Spring.
Honorable John H. (Jay) Gibson, II is currently President and CEO of XCOR Aerospace, Inc. with offices in Mojave, CA; Midland, Texas and Amsterdam, the Netherlands and has direct responsibility for the overall performance of the company. Through developing and producing highly reusable and affordable engines and vehicles with low service requirements, XCOR provides engines and platforms to dramatically increase the viability of space missions and opportunities across diverse markets.
Prior to joining XCOR, Mr. Gibson was most recently Senior Vice President, Global Mission Support for Beechcraft Corporation in Wichita, Kansas. In this role, Mr. Gibson had full responsibility for the financial and operating performance of this $150M+, rapidly growing business unit, which provides parts, maintenance, support and modifications to government and defense programs on a global basis. Additionally in this role, Mr. Gibson managed the strategic planning as well as cultivating and managing relationships with key clients, governments, partners and suppliers.
Previously, as Vice President, Special Mission Aircraft, Mr. Gibson was the senior leader for the Special Mission Aircraft segment, which included responsibility for the establishment as a standalone unit. He was responsible for formation of the business’ strategy; internal and external market identity, organizational and process structure as well as the P/L for the $400M business. He served as the public face of the unit with domestic and international customers, suppliers and partners to include managing teaming, JV’s and partnering. Additionally, Mr. Gibson also was responsible for the Corporate Government Relations in which he managed the company’s state and federal relationships and activities, which facilitated Beechcraft’s business objectives.
Mr. Gibson joined Beechcraft as Vice President, Finance and Contracts, Government Business where he served as the CFO of this $600M segment of the company and managed the Finance, Contracts functions and drove operational, financial and management performance improvement across the organization. Additionally, Mr. Gibson was involved in numerous corporate activities including risk management, the Challenge Project (corporate reorganization of operations, supply chain and facilities), and Export/Import functions. This also included acquisition and divestiture activities.
Prior to joining Beechcraft, Mr. Gibson served as the Assistant Secretary of the United States Air Force (Financial Management and Comptroller) in Washington, D.C., where he was the principal advisor to the Secretary on all financial management matters. This included responsibilities for all budgetary and fiscal matters including formulation, execution and management of a $140 billion budget and serving as the Chief Financial Officer for the Air Force being responsible for providing the financial management and analytical services necessary for the effective use of Air Force resources. He is a recipient of the Air Force Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service.
Mr. Gibson entered public service as Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Management Reform) where he identified, evaluated, prioritized and pursued defense wide opportunities for management and process improvement. He also served as Acting Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Financial Management).
Throughout the majority of his career, Mr. Gibson has held numerous private sector leadership positions with various companies, including roles as Chief Financial Officer, Managing Director, and Chief Operating Officer with diverse exposure and extensive experience across a number of industries to include distribution, consulting, aerospace and defense industries. Mr. Gibson earned an MBA in Business/Finance from the University of Dallas, and also earned a BBA in Finance and a BA in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin. Mr. Gibson was recently a member of the Federal Industry Trade Advisory Committee (Aerospace). Mr. Gibson is also Chairman, Advisory Committee for Looking Glass Investments.b
