CYBERSECURITY Luxembourg: a strong and dynamic community for a strengthened EU-wide industrial, research and innovation ecosystem
The CYBERSECURITY Luxembourg initiative was created 4 years ago, paving the way towards the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre (ECCC). Luxembourg, once again, showed its pioneer mindset, that’ll be fully implemented with the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre (NCC-LU).
A dynamic community…
The first mapping and analysis of the Luxembourg cybersecurity ecosystem was carried out in 2019 by Luxinnovation & SECURITYMADEIN.LU. A dedicated national brand, “CYBERSECURITY Luxembourg”, was created to federate a strong community under a common and clear identity and as a means to promote its expertise, locally and internationally.
The objective is to initiated collaboration on key topics, to encourage cooperation among relevant stakeholders, and to empower the Luxembourg economy in the area of cybersecurity. Each single member of this ecosystem has its role to play and is an integral part of the common effort to secure the cyberspace at all levels and to support the digital transformation of our economy and society.
The ecosystem is composed of more than 300 actors (public, private and from the civil society), including more than 70 startups. Among these actors, there are 90 companies specialising in cybersecurity, representing the core of the community.
Furthermore, we see that during the last years, cybersecurity has been integrated as a focus area among non-IT traditional businesses, making it a real asset to the Luxembourg economy.
Throughout the year, SECURITYMADEIN.LU federates the ecosystem around a number of key rendezvous – the next major event being the Cybersecurity Week Luxembourg, taking place 18-20 October 2022 at LuxExpo The Box, gathering the local cybersecurity ecosystem and its key international partners, under one single roof for the very first time.
… for a strengthened EU ecosystem
SECURITYMADEIN.LU, the cybersecurity agency for the Luxembourg economy and municipalities, has been mandated to act as the National Coordination Centre for Luxembourg (NCC-LU) within the Network of National Coordination Centres, established by EU regulation 2021/887, creating a European Cybersecurity Competence Centre (ECCC), located in Bucharest.
The ECCC, together with its NCC network, will work together in order to increase Europe’s cybersecurity capacities and competitiveness and to build a strong European Cybersecurity Community.
SECURITYMADEIN.LU’s enlarged mission is thus designed to foster the European and Luxemburgish Cybersecurity Ecosystem, and articulates around 5 main pillars:
• Coordination of European and National Funding
• Education & Awareness
• Research & Innovation
• Federation of the Community
• European and International Liaison for Economic Development
The overall leitmotif of its activities, is to foster an open, agile and adaptive cooperation between diverse stakeholders, as well as to promote synergies and mutual understanding. Key attributes of the mandate include connecting relevant capabilities and stakeholders in order to reduce fragmentation, bringing experts together in a network to help build a safe, resilient and trustworthy economy.
