    Rakuten
    Chairman and CEO
Hiroshi Mikitani is Chairman and CEO of Rakuten, one of the world’s leading e-commerce companies. Mikitani has been referred to as a maverick in his approach and is widely seen as the leader of an emerging, ’New Japan’, one which increasingly turns away from traditional modes of doing business.
Born in Kobe, Japan, Mikitani graduated from Hitotsubashi University in 1988, and earned his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1993. Personal tragedy in the 1995 Great Hanshin earthquake inspired Mikitani to leave a promising career in investment banking to create something that he thought would be more meaningful to society. Starting out with just a handful of team members, Mikitani launched the “Rakuten Ichiba” marketplace in May 1997. Today, Rakuten is listed on the JASDAQ market and is the world’s third largest ecommerce company.
In Rakuten, Mikitani sought to create an ecommerce platform characterized by Empowerment and Omotenashi (Japanese service mindset), which seeks to empower businesses through the Internet and provide members with truly exceptional customer service experiences that Japan is renowned for. Rakuten now works with more than 38,000 professional merchants to offer over 80 million registered products to its 73 million members, in addition to an expanding Internet services ecosystem that includes travel, banking, securities, e-money, and much more.
From 2008, Mikitani began to take his unique B2B2C model global. With operations in 10 countries across Europe, the Americas and Asia, Rakuten is now a truly international organisation. In addition to acquisitions last year in Germany, Brasil and the UK, in late 2011 Mikitani made a bold statement by acquiring global eReading company Kobo, which brought with it a family of innovative hardware and one of the largest online book catalogues in the world.
In March, 2010, Mikitani stunned the Japanese business community by mandating English as the company language. Mikitani and Rakuten are now the subject of a popular Harvard Business School case study on language and globalization taught to all first year students.

As a result, EA Ready allows brands to communicate with gamers in never been done before, highly engaging ways. One recent execution of this was the reality web series, “The Controller: BF3,” a highly successful partnership with CBSi/Gamespot and AMD that resulted in over 3MM views. Another example is EA Signal, an interactive video content wrapper around the Madden 12 game demo on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, in which branded entertainment videos were created in partnership with Chevrolet. Award-winning DJ
    Host, Music Supervisor
As an award winning, world traveling DJ and unique hustler of culture, Garth is considered the foremost curator of urban alternative music and culture with top-ranking career highlights that span music programming and supervision for film and TV, advertising, online and in-flight entertainment, studio music and live event production, and music journalism. As a voting member of NARAS, Garth sits on the Grammy Awards R&B Board in support of the new Best Urban Alternative Performance category, created as a direct result of his continued approach to music programming. Hungry to nurture and house an international identity for urban artists from all nations, Mr. Trinidad exploits stereos and club speakers to seduce minds and bodies with varied ghetto music philosophies. He’s broken artists like Jill Scott, Van Hunt and Gnarls Barkley and primes his radio canvas with progressive and familiar soul, R&B, hip hop, and jazz, while the rebirth of cool comes courtesy of such rising stars as Seu Jorge, Sa-Ra, Steve Spacek, and J-Davey with hopes of catapulting them into mainstream status. Garth’s approach to rocking parties is a fusion of world rhythms and beloved beats from many genres. One might find him finessing samba, bhangra, and afro-beat with classic hip hop, R&B, house, and other assorted dance rhythms. Over the years he’s lubricated dance floors in South America, Western Europe, and across the US, with a constant presence in Los Angeles. Steadfast in his mission to cultivate a global urban alternative, Garth has been heard as music commentator on NPR syndicated programs News and Notes and The Tavis Smiley Show, and been found blogging, interviewing artists, and programming playlists for Napster and iTunes. As music consultant and supervisor his client roster includes UPN, Nike, FX Network, PBS, Mitsubishi, Infiniti, and United Airlines with record production credits from Warner Bros, Atlantic, Rhino, and BBE. Companies such as Nike, Adidas, Puma, Ford and Toyota have contracted Mr. Trinidad to host events, sport apparel, and drive cars for his ability to influence the market as a respected tastemaker. As music supervisor in 2007, he’s helping HBO add some additional music flavor to the hit show Entourage and has assisted critically acclaimed director Stacy Peralta (Dog Town and Z Boys, Riding Giants) in a gut wrenching study of South Central LA gangs for release in 2008. The idea for Tomorrowish Social TV and all the other tools that surround it originally came from the needs of one person: Amy Greenlaw. A few years ago at SXSW, Amy, who is now our head or Marketing, was watching several TV series intently, I believe the last season of LOST was one she was talking about a lot. She would pop onto Twitter and talk about the show with other strangers using the hashtag #lost to follow the conversation. When she was at SXSW she missed one or two weeks of the show and had to stop looking at the tweets from any of her friends who watched the show. She also couldn't enjoy looking at those comments even as she was watching the show later on her DVR, because spoilers would be visible. I thought, "If only she had a DVR for Twitter she could watch the show and the conversation at the same time whenever she wanted." That was the idea, fully formed while I read a tweet from her talking about missing the fun conversations as she caught up on all the shows she recorded while at SXSW. I tried out a quick test to see how tough it would be and got a VERY simple version working with the help of a friend, Dave Fisher. We put it on the back burner for a year or two and then when the opportunity was right for it, I put together the team that has built a very capable and complex, heuristically aware filtering system to not only replay social media comments, but find the best ones and let people add new comments to the saved conversations days or years later. With help and partnership deals, we have Hulu premium content on our Tomorrowish TV site, and elevated rights to grab the full conversation every night for prime time TV and more.

Sullivan spearheads the company’s initiatives to maximize content
identification, licensing, accounting, and monetization of content for songwriters and publishers globally.

Sullivan has been at the forefront of many pivotal industry issues that have helped define and shape the current market for music in a digital era. His extensive experience in industry negotiations, licensing and royalty payments, digital content management
and distribution, as well as legislative and legal affairs makes him a frequent lecturer at corporations, universities, and conferences around the world about intellectual property and copyright. Patrick’s firm belief that creators should be paid for the use of their work, and his understanding of the complexities surrounding U.S. copyright compliance lead him to launch RightsFlow in 2007.
